The Economy and Baptisms

Greetings to all who take the time to read the news that is happening in Tarija Bolivia!

The current economic situation in Bolivia is very complicated for the people, especially for those who do not have a lot. Some basic food and household items have tripled. There is very little gas and the shortage of dollars has greatly affected the economy. We have not been able to get US dollars here for 2 years now and even though the dollar has doubled in the exchange rate, the banks have held the dollar at the same exchange rate as before. (Basically we get half of what the dollar is worth.) We are entering a new presidential election (in August) and we hope that the left stops being in charge of the government. If that does not happen unfortunately it will become chaos throughout Bolivia. There will be shortages of many products that enter from neighboring countries among other things. We ask for your prayers for all the changes that are coming, that everything returns little by little to normal and that the president who is elected can change economic policies for the well-being of those who have the least.

We are well thanks to your support and can still support ourselves despite the change in economy. Thank you for everything you do for us.

This month we had two baptisms, previously we had shared with you about the Mayari family, Raúl and Verónica. After more than two years of studying with them, helping them with their financial needs, collaborating with their son Ángel (who lost his other arm), they gave us the great privilege of seeing them born again in obedience to the gospel of our Lord Jesus. We are all happy and we hope that many more come to the knowledge of the gift of salvation given freely by God in our favor.

We have also been teaching Juan Carlos, a friend who sells tortillas, arepas, and panchitos in front of the contact center, El Camino. We have taught him how to make certain Ecuadorian foods so that he can make them and sell them at his stand as well. We have made bolos (a meal made with green plantains, pork, and cheese), and last Thursday we made hot dogs, like the ones we make in Ecuador, with refried onions, Fanta soda, and tomato puree. Roberto, a friend who comes along to El Camino from time to time, was also there. Friendship evangelism works best here and we continue to try and build those relationships and share the Good News.
