Youth

Although we have a contact center in front of the university, we have had a hard time really connecting with this age (in Bolivia anyone who is in high school or collage is considered youth). In Sucre the university students where the biggest group in the church for a long time, but here the situation is different. Before going to the States I thought about trying to start a small group in my house for the youth but I wasn't sure how it would work. God, as always, provides a way.

Whenever people come into El Camino I try to share something of the Good News with them and also tell them that they are welcome anytime to just hang out and have a cup of coffee, but that also we are there to study the Bible, pray with people and offer counseling (in a non-professional way). About three weeks ago two university girls came in. They had come in with a group before although I didn't remember them. I sat down and was going to start talking to them when one said she had come because she needed to talk with someone about a problem she had. We ended up talking for two hours and at the end I invited the two girls to my house the next day. They were excited about it and I ended up inviting my babysitter and some others. The next day only my baby sitter showed (Lorie my teammate also came), but it was really good as we made brownies, had a devotional and watched a movie. The next Saturday six youth came. Now I've been having youth in my house every Saturday evening. It's been a blessing as everyone sees that there is community here if they want. We are going talking about the book of James and getting to know each other. Please be praying this can turn into something consistent and can be a place of transformation for those that come.
